MOUNTAIN
VIEW, CA—April 11, 2006—The Linley Group, the
leading provider of independent analysis of the networking-silicon
industry, today issued its report "Networking
Silicon Market Share 2005." The report provides
market share information for 19 networking-related product
markets, including
network processors, Gigabit and 10-Gigabit Ethernet components,
VoIP chips, broadband interfaces, and switch fabrics. With
this information suppliers can assess their competitive standing
in their chosen markets and evaluate opportunities in adjacent
markets. Investors and buyers of networking silicon can make
better investment and sourcing decisions by using the information
to identify winners and losers.
“We’re pleased to supplement our detailed coverage of
networking silicon technology with analysis of the networking
silicon market. Our broader scope benefits all of our clients,
be they OEMs, service providers, investors, or chip companies,” said
Linley Gwennap, Principal Analyst, The Linley Group.
The report reveals that Broadcom remained the leading
supplier of networking silicon. More significantly,
Broadcom increased
its revenue over 2004 more than any other supplier. The
company’s
gains came largely from Gigabit Ethernet and DSL at the expense
of Intel and STMicroelectronics. Smaller companies performing
well include NetLogic in network search engines, Neterion
in 10-Gigabit Ethernet, and Passave in passive optical networking
(PON).
“Because
our data spans a mixture of established and emerging
product markets, we provide insight into how the future
will
unfold as newer technologies displace mature ones.
By also covering key niche markets, even the smaller
companies that
typically supply these markets can be evaluated,” continued
Mr. Gwennap.
