Tom R. Halfhill
Tom R. Halfhill is a senior analyst at The Linley Group and senior editor of Microprocessor Report. Previously he served in this role at In-Stat, where he authored more than 280 articles for Microprocessor Report and Processor Watch. He has been a journalist since 1977 and has focused on technology for more than twenty-five years. Prior to In-Stat he was a technology analyst at ARC Cores. He previously worked as an analyst for Microprocessor Report in 1999-2000. He is coauthor of A Guide to Multicore Processors, A Guide to Embedded Processors, A Guide to Processors for Wireless Base Stations, A Guide to Processors for Network Security, A Guide to High-Speed Embedded Processors and A Guide to FPGAs.
Tom was a senior editor at BYTE Magazine for six years, where he wrote nearly 200 articles about microprocessors, Java, thin-client computing, computer reliability, data compression, broadband communications, and many other topics.
Before joining BYTE, he was the editor of several magazines that covered personal computers and electronic games, such as Compute! and Game Player's. In the 1980s, he was the launch editor of five computer magazines and a technology newsletter. He is a prolific writer and has been a co-author, contributor, or editor of more than 20 books. He also writes a monthly column in Maximum PC magazine.
He started his career as a daily newspaper reporter and was introduced to computers when the newspaper switched from manual typewriters to VDTs in the late 1970s.
