Mobile Market Overview
Linley Gwennap, Principal Analyst, The Linley Group

This presentation will provide an overview of the mobile semiconductor market, including 2014 market share and updated forecasts. Linley will also present an independent view of the leading mobile-processor products, including benchmark results, and discuss the technology trends that will determine which processors will succeed in 2015 and beyond. The talk will include content on tablets, smartphones, and wearables.

This session, moderated by Mike Demler, senior analyst at The Linley Group, introduces new IP and design techniques for mobile processors. Interconnecting the heterogeneous processor blocks of a cache-coherent SoC is a challenging task, which requires integration of complex on-chip networks. Designers must also incorporate debug ports that provide access to the internal blocks for testing and verification in mobile devices.

Automating Timing Closure using Network on Chip Interconnect and Physical information

Today's SoCs are complex, often requiring months to close timing. This presentation announces a new IP product, FlexNoC Physical that can use placement data to estimate timing and automatically insert and configure pipeline stages to accelerate SoC timing closure. The continually evolving SoC floorplans and NoC topology are synchronized; enabling NoC IP physical timing and closure prior to merging with the millions of gates comprising the entire SoC. This physically aware IP aims to cut months from the timing closure process, lowering SoC costs and improving schedule predictability.

Cost-Effective Implementation for High-Resolution Displays on Mobile Devices

This presentation describes alternative solutions that reduce data transmission bandwidth by compressing and transmitting video signals through existing display interfaces. The solution adopts the VESA Display Stream Compression (DSC) standard, which uses less complex algorithms to provide lower compression and consume less power. VESA DSC utilizes the MIPI Display Serial Interface (DSI) specification, which is used for display interfaces in mobile systems.
